Before using a menstrual cup, it’s crucial to wash your hands thoroughly with mild soap and warm water. This step helps maintain cleanliness and prevents any potential introduction of harmful bacteria into the vaginal area.
Take the menstrual cup and fold it using one of the popular folding techniques such as the C-fold, Punch-down fold, or 7-fold. Experiment with different folds to find the one that suits you best.
Assume a comfortable position, either sitting or standing. Gently separate the labia with one hand and insert the folded menstrual cup into the vaginal canal at a slight angle. It should sit lower than a tampon but not too close to the vaginal opening.
Once inserted, the menstrual cup will unfold and create a seal against the vaginal walls. To ensure a proper seal, gently rotate the cup or run your finger along the base to confirm that it has fully opened and is positioned correctly.
To remove the cup, carefully insert your index or middle finger into the vagina until you reach the base of the cup. Gently pinch the base to release the suction seal. Slowly pull the cup down, tilting it slightly to avoid any spills.
Hold the cup over the toilet or sink and pour the contents into the toilet. Rinse the cup with water to remove any residue. If water is not readily available, you can use a menstrual cup wipe or toilet paper to clean it before reinserting.
Between cycles, it’s essential to sterilize the cup. Boil it in water for a few minutes or use a sterilizing solution specifically designed for menstrual cups. Once dry, store the cup in the provided cloth pouch or a breathable container until your next use.
